As JP Nadda steps down as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president, the party is actively searching for a new leader to take the reins. Several prominent figures have emerged as probable candidates, making this selection crucial for the BJP's future.
After serving as the national president of the BJP for over four years, JP Nadda has returned to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's council of ministers, taking oath as a Cabinet minister on June 9.

The BJP's search for a new leader has thrown up several names, with Vinod Tawde, K Laxman, and Sunil Bansal being touted as potential candidates. Tawde, a former Maharashtra minister, has been making waves in the party circles with his organisational skills and Maratha connect. One of the top contenders is Vinod Tawde, a seasoned BJP general secretary who has served as a minister in the Maharashtra government. His extensive experience in electoral politics and reputation as a shrewd strategist make him a strong candidate.
Another notable name is K Laxman, the OBC Morcha chief from Telangana. With a background in social work and experience as a state president, he has a deep understanding of the party's organizational structure.
Sunil Bansal, the general secretary overseeing key states like West Bengal, Telangana, and Odisha, has also emerged as a contender. His successful track record in these states has garnered him significant support among party leaders.
Om Mathur, a Rajya Sabha member from Rajasthan and a trusted confidant of the late Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, is another potential candidate. His background as an RSS pracharak and his reputation for being direct and forthright make him a formidable option.
In a surprising development, Smriti Irani, who recently faced defeat in Amethi and was dropped from the Modi cabinet, has also been rumored to be in the running. If selected, she would be the first woman president of the BJP, marking a significant milestone for the party.
