Pastor Bajinder Singh was sentenced to life imprisonment by Punjab's Mohali court on Tuesday in connection with a 2018 sexual harassment case. The court rejected the mercy plea of the accused, emphasizing that someone who presents himself as a religious leader cannot commit such crimes against those who trust him.

Advocate Anil Sagar, representing the victim, expressed satisfaction with the sentence, stating, "He was popular as a spiritual leader, with followers who called him 'Papa Ji.' When someone in such a position commits a crime, they deserve severe punishment. We are satisfied with the life imprisonment term, ensuring he will remain behind bars for the rest of his life."

Bajinder Singh was convicted under Sections 376 (rape), 323 (causing hurt), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

The conviction came seven years after the case was first filed.
