Who is Nitish Kumar, the man who always comes back stronger
In 1989 he became secretary-general of the Janata Dal.
Nitish Kumar has resigned several times in the past. He has however always made a come back following a resignation. In 1999 he resigned as railway minister following the Gaisal train accident. In 2005 he resigned as the Bihar CM when he failed to muster support for a majority. In 2014, he resigned as the Bihar CM after the JD(U) lost badly in the Lok Sabha elections. On Wednesday, he resigned as the Bihar CM.

Nitish Kumar has had an eventful political career. He will back for another innings as the CM of Bihar following his swearing in on Thursday.

Who is Nitish Kumar?
- Born in Bakhtiarpur, Patna district on March 1 1951.
- Nitish Kumar belongs to the Kurmi caste.
- Kaviraj Ram Lakhan Singh was a freedom fighter and an Ayurvedic doctor
- Nitish Kumar's father quit the INC to joint the Janata Party
- He quit the INC after being denied a ticket in 1952 and 1957
- Kumar is a mechanical engineer
- Kumar's wife Manju Kumari Sinha passed away in 2007.
- Kumar's son Nishant pursued engineering from the BIT, Mesra, Jharkhand.
- Nitish made his political debut in 1980 after taking part in the Jayaprakash Narayan's movement
- In 1985, he was elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly as an independent candidate
- Nitish became president of the Yuva Lok Dal in 1987.
- In 1989 he became secretary-general of the Janata Dal.
- Kumar was first elected to Lok Sabha in 1989 and he served as the Minister of Surface Transport (1998 to 1999), Minister of Agriculture (1999 to 2001) and Minister of Railways (1998 to 1999 and 2001 to 2004).
- In 1994 he formed the Samata Dal after parting ways with Lalu Prasad Yadav.
- Nitish became Bihar CM for the first time in 2000.
- His first stint as CM lasted only a week.
- After the 2005 Bihar assembly elections, Nitish's JD(U) formed the government.
- Prior to the 2014 elections, he broke away from the NDA.
- Three years later he is back with the NDA to form the government in Bihar.
