Karnataka Assembly: Who is KR Ramesh Kumar?

KR Ramesh Kumar is a member of the Indian National Congress from the state of Karnataka. Ramesh Kumar is a six-time MLA from Srinivaspur constituency in Kolar district.

In June 2016 Ramesh Kumar was inducted into the Siddaramaiah led government of Karnataka as a cabinet minister. He held the Health and Family Welfare Ministry portfolio in the Government of Karnataka.

MLA Ramesh Kumar had served as Speaker during the HD Deve Gowda and JH Patel governments in the State (1994-99).

As Health Minister, Ramesh Kumar made an emotional speech in the Legislative Council and even offered to retire from public life, if poor people thought his stand on the amendment to the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments (KPME) Bill would bring hardships to them.

Ramesh Kumar started his political journey in 1978 by beating R. G. Narayanareddy by over 18000 votes. Ramesh Kumar fought on an Indian National Congress ticket Srinivaspur.

Srinivaspur, nicknamed as "land of mangoes" is a town located in the Kolar district of Karnataka state, India. It is the only place in the world where all 63 species of mango is found. The taluk is sometimes referred to as Mango City and is the biggest producer of mangoes in Karnataka.

Ramesh Kumar graduated from Government Arts and Science College in Bangalore during the year 1970-71.

Apart from politics, Ramesh Kumar is known for his acting skills. He acted in two Kannada serials directed by TN Sitaram. In two serials 'Mahaparva' and 'Mukta' Ramesh Kumar appeared as a politician.
