Who is Harivansh Narayan Singh?
New Delhi, Aug 9: National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate Harivansh Narayan Singh elected as Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman with 125 votes. UPA's BK Hariprasad got 105 votes. PM Narendra Modi congratulated e Harivansh Narayan Singh who was elected as Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman.
Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu had announced election to the post of Deputy Chairman lying vacant since June this year following the retirement of PJ Kurien.
Who is Harivansh Narayan Singh?
- Harivansh Narayan Singh, a first-time Rajya Sabha MP, representing Bihar. Singh is ex-journalist and former editor-in-chief of Hindi daily Prabhat Khabar. Singh was on of the three JDU MPs elected unopposed from Bihar in 2014. He is elected for the term April 2014-April-2020.
- Harivansh Singh was born on 30 June 1956, in Ballia (Uttar Pradesh). He is graduated from Banaras Hindu University (BHU). He has Post Graduate in Economics and a Diploma in Journalism. He was associated with Jai Prakash Narayan or "JP", the renowned socialist who united opposition parties against Indira Gandhi's Emergency rule.
- According to My Neta portal, Harivansh Narayan Singh has three criminal cases filed against him. He has assets worth Rs 4,76,08,650 and Rs 43,31,098 liabilities.
- He has authored and edited several books in Hindi, especially on Bihar and Jharkhand. His biodata on the Rajya Sabha website says he has also been honoured for his outstanding contribution to Hindi.
