Who Is Dr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu? Know About His Education And Past Designations

Bureaucrats Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Gyanesh Kumar have been appointed to fill vacant positions in the Election Commission of India's top panel, as disclosed by Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.

Chowdhury revealed that he was part of the panel chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, tasked with selecting the two Election Commissioners who will assist Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar in overseeing preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also attended the meeting alongside the Prime Minister and Chowdhury.

Chowdhury mentioned that the suggestion list included the names of 92 officers who retired as Secretary or Secretary-equivalent in the Government of India, 93 names of officers currently serving in such capacities, 15 officers who retired as Chief Secretaries of states and union territories in the last year, as well as 28 officers currently serving as chief secretaries in states and union territories.

Who is Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu?

Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu is a former IAS officer. He earned his MBBS from Government Medical College in Amritsar and a Master's Degree in History from Guru Nanak Dev University, also in Amritsar. Additionally, he holds a Law degree.

Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu has held various pivotal positions across different government sectors. A 1988 batch IAS officer from the Uttarakhand Cadre, Dr. Sandhu has played instrumental roles in the administration of both the Central Government and the state governments of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab.

Prior to his recent appointment, Dr. Sandhu served as the Chairperson of the National Highways Authority of India and he earned recognition for his contributions as the Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand in 2021. Additionally, while serving as the Additional Secretary in the Department of Higher Education, Government of India, Dr. Sandhu played a pivotal role in overseeing Technical Education. His career is marked by diverse roles spanning infrastructure development, finance, urban development, and more.
