Who Is Abhinav Chandrachud? The Lawyer Fighting Ranveer Allahbadia's Case

As YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia the Supreme Court with a plea to club all FIRs against him filed after his obscene remarks on Samay Raina's India's Got Latent show, he has sought the service of Abhinav Chandrachud to fight his case in the apex court.

The popular podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia is facing multiple cases against him for his obscene remarks on India's Got Latent.

"Would you rather watch your parents have sex for the rest of your life - or would you join in once and stop it forever?" Ranveer is heard saying on the show. Despite lending an apology, he has been criticised by many for his objectionable remarks.

Cases have been filed in many places including in Mumbai and Guwahati. Now, Ranveer has sought Abhinav Chandrachud's service. So, who is he?

Who is Abhinav Chandrachud?

Abhinav Chandrachud, son of former chief justice of India DY Chandrachud, is a distinguished lawyer practicing at the Bombay High Court.

He earned his LLB from Government Law College, Mumbai, in 2008 before moving to the United States for further studies. He completed his LLM at Harvard Law School and later pursued another postgraduate degree at Stanford Law School in 2012.

Continuing his academic journey, Chandrachud obtained a doctorate from Stanford in 2014. During his studies, he gained valuable experience as a paralegal in a U.S.-based law firm and later worked as an Associate Attorney at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP in 2009. He returned to India in 2014 and has been practicing law at the Bombay High Court since then.

His father, a prominent figure in the Indian judiciary, was appointed Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court in 2016 before ascending to the position of Chief Justice of India. Despite his father's influential role, Abhinav refrained from presenting cases in the Supreme Court during his tenure.

In addition to his legal career, Chandrachud is a prolific author. He has written several books, including Republic of Rhetoric: Free Speech and the Constitution of India (2017) and Supreme Whispers: Conversations with Judges of the Supreme Court of India 1980-1989 (2018). His insightful opinion pieces have also appeared in leading Indian newspapers.

Ranveer's Case To Come Up For Hearing Next Week

Meanwhile, The Supreme Court on Friday said the Allahbadia's plea will be taken up in two-three days.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar told Abhinav Chandrachud that it does not allow oral mentioning of cases for urgent listing. "I have assigned the bench and it will come up (before a bench) in two-three days," the CJI said when Chandrachud submitted that the Assam police has summoned Allahbadia for joining the probe during the day.
