Which Indian state has the highest ISIS fanboys?

Hyderabad, Dec 15: Telangana and its capital Hyderabad in particular has been identified as a problem area for security agencies as the number of fanboys of the ISIS are highest in this part of the country.

While across the country, the Intelligence Bureau are watching nearly 200 persons alleged to be sympathetic towards the ISIS, in Telangana alone the count is at 65.

Karnataka is not far behind and the number of persons under watch is 50 says an Intelligence Bureau official. Tamil Nadu and Kerala are next with 48 and 45 respectively.

These are under watch as they tend to log into ISIS related sites quite often. It is a difficult scenario and such persons need to be under continued watch, the officer also adds.

Wait and watch:

The Intelligence Bureau has adopted a wait and watch policy in such cases. There has been a clear policy decision on this matter and the Home Ministry is clear that there shall be no witch hunting. Merely viewing ISIS related content cannot be termed as an offence.

The watch procedure is at different levels, the IB officer added. If people are just viewing content, then an offence cannot be made out.

However, the viewing pattern is what is important. If a person is spending half his time on an ISIS related site, then the surveillance is higher. There are other levels as well where persons are seeking out information and in such cases the surveillance levels are the highest.

Under the watch list are several youth from Hyderabad, the officer said. However, there are a good number of them who are viewing material just out of curiosity. Although these numbers are worrisome, the situation is very much under control as we are confident of nabbing them the moment they try and step out.

The problem abroad:

However, the biggest problem for the IB is with regard to those youth who leave for the ISIS from a foreign land. It has been noticed that in some cases that youth reach Syria after first landing in Singapore. Cases of youth leaving from Saudi Arabia or Oman have also been reported.

The latest in the offing is the Sudan route. The case of a youth from Tanjavur was an example of this. He was working in Oman and recently landed in Sudan from where he was to be launched into Syria. However, he was apprehended.
