Where Are The Presidents And Prime Ministers Heading To After G20 Summit?

Leaders from across the globe will be in India to attend the G20 Summit which will be held on September 9 and 10.

The G20 grouping comprises Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, the US and the European Union.

Where Are The Presidents And Prime Ministers Heading To After G20 Summit?

US President Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva are among the G20 leaders who have already confirmed their participation in the summit.

So, what will the leaders do after attending the event?

US President Biden will be visiting Vietnam after attending the G20 Summit in India.

According to a CNN report, Biden's trip to Vietnam comes as his administration works to counter China's influence in the Indo-Pacific region and after he said last month that he would soon visit Hanoi "to change our relationship," comments that reflected the current era of tension in Asia.

"Biden will meet with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and other key leaders to discuss ways to further deepen cooperation between the United States and Vietnam. The leaders will explore opportunities to promote the growth of a technology-focused and innovation-driven Vietnamese economy, expand our people-to-people ties through education exchanges and workforce development programs, combat climate change, and increase peace, prosperity, and stability in the region," US Embassy in Vietnam said in a statement.

On the horizon is a potential enhancement in the bilateral relationship between the two nations, a development occurring in under five decades since the conclusion of a war that resulted in the loss of millions of Vietnamese lives and over 58,000 US service members.

"For decades, the US and Vietnam have worked to overcome a painful shared legacy of the Vietnam War," National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan told a briefing this week. "This visit is a remarkable step in the strengthening of our diplomatic ties, and it reflects the leading role that Vietnam will play in our growing network of partnerships in the Indo-Pacific as we look to the future," he said..

It has to be noted that at this stage Vietnam only has ties at the same level with Russia, India, South Korea and China.

Saudi Prince To Stay Back

Following the G20 Summit this weekend, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is scheduled to undertake a state visit to India. This visit will serve as an opportunity to engage in discussions regarding bilateral relations and cooperation across various sectors.

Next week, Saudi Arabia and India are set to co-host an investment forum that will concentrate on projects in the fields of chemicals, energy, manufacturing, and technology. The crown prince will hold discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Notably, India ranks as one of the top customers for Saudi crude exports, establishing itself as the kingdom's second-largest trade partner last year, second only to China. This trend reflects India's shift towards Middle Eastern crude, particularly as Russian oil cargoes become increasingly expensive.

French President Macron to visit Bangladesh

After the G20 meeting, French President Emmanuel Macron is scheduled to visit Bangladesh on September 10. This will be the first time a French president visits the South Asian nation in 33 years. However, he will be having a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi before leaving to Bangladesh.
