When Nitish bust a plot set by Lalu Yadav

The RJD has been facing trouble over various cases including ones filed against its supremo.

When the CBI raided Tejashwi Yadav, Nitish Kumar saw an opportunity to come out of an alliance he was never comfortable with to begin in the first place. Nitish had sought the resignation of the junior Yadav as the deputy chief minister of Bihar, but the RJD stayed firm and did not give in.

There are various factors that were taken into account before Nitish put in his papers on Wednesday. Sources say that Nitish at first had no plans of derailing the Grand Alliance in Bihar. He wanted to wait a while longer and then back into the NDA fold while the 2019 elections were nearing.

However sources say that Nitish had found out that there was a plot brewing to topple him. Some in the RJD were allegedly in talks with the centre promising to topple Nitish Kumar. It is further alleged that the RJD had said it was ready to dump Nitish Kumar in exchange for help from the centre in some of the cases against its leaders.

The RJD has been facing trouble over various cases including ones filed against its supremo, Lalu Prasad Yadav and his daughter Misa Bharti. The cases have reached a boiling point and hence some in the RJD had mooted the idea of seeking help from the centre with the promise of toppling Nitish Kumar.

Nitish realised that there was a plot brewing against him. He sent out the first strong signal to his allies when he declared support to Ram Nath Kovind. After this his resolve to walk out of the alliance became stronger. With all at the back end set, Nitish finally walked up to the Governor on Wednesday and tendered his resignation.
