WhatsApp Introduces Screen Lock Feature for Desktop Users: How To Use It?

WhatsApp, the messaging platform owned by Meta, has expanded its features to include a screen lock feature for its desktop version. According to recent reports from WABetaInfo, the company has started rolling out this new security feature to WhatsApp Desktop beta testers. This enhancement allows users to safeguard their conversations from unauthorized access by requiring a password to unlock the app.

Once activated, the screen lock feature locks WhatsApp Web and prompts users to input a password to view their conversation list. To determine if this feature is available for a specific WhatsApp account, users can navigate to WhatsApp Settings > Privacy. If accessible, a screen lock entry point will be visible. Activating this feature enhances the security of users' chats and messages, preventing access even if someone gains unauthorised access to the computer while the user is away.

In the event that a user forgets their password, they can regain access by logging out of WhatsApp Web and then relogging by scanning the QR code.

WhatsApp's Recently Added Features

In addition to the screen lock feature for its desktop version, WhatsApp has recently introduced other notable enhancements. After extensive beta testing, the platform has globally launched the Screen Share functionality, allowing users to share their phone and PC screens during video calls. While this feature facilitates convenient collaboration, it's important to note that certain types of content are ineligible for sharing. To safeguard user privacy, WhatsApp has implemented robust security measures.

Furthermore, the company has introduced a landscape mode for video calls. This mode offers a broader and more expansive view of the interface compared to the portrait mode. With the landscape mode, participants in a video call can view a larger number of people simultaneously, leading to an enhanced and immersive video calling experience.
