WhatsApp-based child pornography racket busted
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested one of the administrators of a Whatsapp group in which child pornography material used to be circulated. The arrested group administrator, Nikhil Verma, is resident of Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh.
20-year-old Nikhil Verma, an unemployed B.Com graduate, is one of the five group administrators who has been identified The CBI had registered cases against these five group admins and other 114 members of the WhatsApp group.
Satyendra Chauhan, a resident of Mumbai; Nafis Raza and Zahid, residents of Delhi; and Adarsh of Noida have been identified as other administrators of the Whatsapp group.
The pornographic material was being uploaded in the group named "Kids-XXX" involving people from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan, United States, Mexico, New Zealand, China, Nigeria, Brazil and Kenya, said the agency.
The Centre had in July 2017 told the Supreme Court that it was taking steps to deal with the issue of child pornography in its entirety.
The SC had in 2016 urged the Centre to stop access to websites featuring child pornography.
In July 2016, a man and his wife have been arrested in Chennai on charges of running websites featuring child pornography and collecting huge sum of money as membership fee to view the illegal obscene content.
