  • The word Sengol derives from the word, "semmai", meaning "righteousness".
  • Until now the Sengol was housed at a museum in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the Sengol has played an important role in India's history. The sceptre was handed over to India's first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru to mark the transfer of power from the British to India.
  • Ahead of the installation, the Sengol was handed over to PM Modi by around 30 Adheenams from Tamil Nadu.
