Prime Minister Narendra Modi today installed the historic Sengol next to the Lok Sabha Speaker's seat in the new Parliament building.

Here are some interesting facts about the historic Sengol.
- The word Sengol derives from the word, "semmai", meaning "righteousness".
- Until now the Sengol was housed at a museum in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the Sengol has played an important role in India's history. The sceptre was handed over to India's first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru to mark the transfer of power from the British to India.
- Ahead of the installation, the Sengol was handed over to PM Modi by around 30 Adheenams from Tamil Nadu.
- The one who is accorded the Sengol is expected to impart an impartial and just rule.
