What Led Nagarjuna To File A Defamation Case Against Konda Surekha?

Telugu actor Nagarjuna Akkineni has initiated a defamation lawsuit against Telangana Congress minister Konda Surekha in light of her recent comments regarding the divorce of Samantha and Naga Chaitanya. Chaitanya took to X to share a copy of the complaint.

The petition was filed as a reaction to the minister's purportedly defamatory statements about Nagarjuna's family.

According to ANI, the complainant, Nagarjuna, submitted that the accused, using her platform as a public figure, made defamatory remarks about him and his family while speaking to the media on 02.10.2024 during the Gandhi Jayanti program.

What Led Nagarjuna To File A Defamation Case Against Konda Surekha

Konda Surekha made significant allegations against Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao, commonly known as KTR, implicating him in the divorce of Samantha and Naga Chaitanya.

The controversy erupted after Minister Konda Surekha made remarks about the high-profile divorce during a media interaction. She later clarified that she mentioned the actors' names in an emotional response to comments made by KTR. However, Surekha apologised and withdrew her statements, emphasizing that she never intended to personally target anyone.

Both Samantha and Naga Chaitanya responded strongly to the comments. Samantha took to her Instagram Story to assert that there was "no political conspiracy" behind their separation, which was announced in 2021. Chaitanya echoed her sentiments on social media, describing their divorce as "one of the most painful and unfortunate decisions" of his life and labeling Surekha's allegations as "ridiculous."

He stated, "It was a decision made in peace, due to our differing life goals, and in the interest of moving forward with respect and dignity as two mature adults. However, various baseless and completely ridiculous rumors have circulated regarding the matter."

Several prominent figures from the Telugu film industry, including Chiranjeevi, Junior NTR, Venkatesh, Prakash Raj, Amala, Vijay Devarakonda, and Khushbu, condemned the minister's remarks. In light of the escalating controversy, the Telangana Congress urged the film industry to let the issue rest, as Surekha had already retracted her statements.
