What Kind Of Justice System Is This?: SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav Slams UP Govt On Bahraich Violence

Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav has slammed the UP government over the Bahraich violence where the cops fired at two accused who tried to flee Nepal.

Speaking to the press, Yadav argued that such incidents are recurring due to government failures and accused the authorities of using extrajudicial methods to cover their lapses.

"The government is resorting to encounters to hide its shortcomings. If law and order were truly improving through encounters, Uttar Pradesh would rank better in many areas," Yadav stated, labeling the situation as an administrative failure. He questioned why the police, aware of the program in Bahraich, couldn't ensure its peaceful execution. "Encounters and spreading hatred-this is the government's new approach. What kind of justice system is this?" he asked.

On Thursday, Uttar Pradesh police reportedly shot two individuals, Sarfaraz alias Rinku and Mohammed Taleeb, while they allegedly tried to escape near the India-Nepal border. The UP DGP Prashant Kumar explained, "When police were escorting five suspects to recover weapons, Sarfaraz and Taleeb attempted to flee, resulting in gunfire that injured both. Abdul Hameed, Fahim, and Abdul Afzal were also taken into custody, making it five arrests in total."

The unrest began in Maharajganj, Bahraich, on October 13, following reports of loud music played outside a place of worship during a Durga Puja procession. The incident led to the death of 22-year-old Ram Gopal Mishra from gunshot injuries and sparked vandalism and arson, with mobs torching homes, businesses, and vehicles. The police have filed multiple FIRs against unidentified rioters and some named suspects in connection with the violence.
