Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on his official induction into Kenjutsu, the ancient Japanese art of swordsmanship, marking a rare global recognition in the field of traditional martial arts.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the actor-politician's long-standing commitment to martial arts despite his demanding public and professional life.

In a message sent to Pawan Kalyan, Prime Minister Modi lauded his dedication and perseverance, describing the achievement as deeply inspiring.

"My heartfelt congratulations on your remarkable accomplishment with your official entry into Kenjutsu. It is commendable that you have pursued martial arts with discipline and dedication while being busy in both public life and your film career. Your decades of dedicated practice in martial arts are truly inspiring.

"Through your success, you have given a strong message to the younger generation that professional responsibilities are not an obstacle to learning new things," an official statement quoted the Prime Minister as saying.

The Prime Minister further highlighted the deeper values associated with martial arts practice and linked it to national fitness initiatives.

"Practicing martial arts requires not only physical strength but also mental balance, patience, and self-control. Following such a rigorous tradition reflects your personality. Individuals like you, who are in public life, need to inspire programs like Fit India, which are designed with the goal of building a healthy and active society. Your discipline and commitment towards fitness will inspire many. Congratulations once again on this achievement. I wish you success in all your future endeavors," PM Modi added.

What Is Kenjutsu?

Kenjutsu is a traditional Japanese martial art that focuses on the techniques, philosophy, and discipline of sword combat. Originating during Japan's feudal era, it was practised by samurai as a method of battlefield training and personal development. Unlike modern sport fencing, Kenjutsu emphasises real combat scenarios, precision, posture, timing, and mental control.

The practice is deeply rooted in discipline and respect, requiring years of rigorous training to master. Today, Kenjutsu is preserved through classical schools known as ryu, and achieving formal recognition in this art is considered rare, especially for practitioners outside Japan. Its principles extend beyond physical combat, promoting mindfulness, resilience, and inner balance.

Pawan Kalyan Calls PM's Message a Great Honour

Responding to the Prime Minister's message, Pawan Kalyan expressed gratitude and described the encouragement as a source of renewed motivation. The Jana Sena leader sent a formal letter thanking PM Modi for his words.
