Formally introduced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the app transforms investigative workflows by connecting field officers directly to the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS).

By linking into this centralized repository-which holds the biometric records of more than 1.29 crore individuals-the app reduces a verification process that historically took days down to a mere 35 seconds.

The system relies on automated algorithms to process fingerprint scans in real time. When an officer scans a suspect's print on-site or at a station, ABHIGYAN cross-references the data against the national database to find immediate matches, bypassing the traditional bottleneck of waiting for manual forensic lab reports.

This instant access is expected to significantly aid field-level policing, particularly when dealing with repeat offenders or identifying unknown suspects.
