What delayed the AIADMK merger?

When OPS met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week, there were a couple of demands that he had putforth in order to make the merger a reality.

Why has the AIADMK merger been delayed. On Friday it was expected that the merger would take place, but it was delayed yet again. While the stage looked set for the E Palanisami and O Panneerselvam factions to come together, differences still remain on both sides.

When OPS met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week, there were a couple of demands that he had putforth in order to make the merger a reality. Differences in allocation of portfolios was one of the reasons.

OPS during his meeting with Modi had placed three demands. He sought the post of Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu or the general secretary of the party. He had also said that the CM''s post could be shared on a rotational basis.

The other point was with regard to the T T V Dhinakaran faction. The deputy speaker in the Lok Sabha, M Thambidurai was quoted saying, " the Dhinakaran faction was ready to hold talks with the OPS camp in a bid to work out the merger. With regarding to EPS, there would be no change in that. He won the vote of 122 MLAs and this endorsed his leadership," he also said.

On the other hand, the OPS camp cited that their leader has been CM thrice. EPS on the other hand maintains that he should continue as the CM and it would not be right to change so many CMs in such a short span of time.
