West Delhi Tops in Home Voting Turnout for Lok Sabha Elections

In a significant move to enhance electoral participation, the West Delhi constituency has emerged as the leader in the adoption of the home voting facility for the Lok Sabha elections. This initiative, aimed at enabling senior citizens above 85 years and persons with disabilities (PWDs) to cast their votes from the comfort of their homes, has seen a remarkable uptake. According to the latest data from the Election Commission, West Delhi recorded 969 voters above 85 years and 179 PWDs availing themselves of this facility.

West Delhi Leads Home Voting

The Election Commission introduced the 'Vote From Home' scheme as part of its efforts to ensure inclusive participation in the democratic process. This innovative approach was announced alongside the Lok Sabha polls schedule, marking a significant step towards accommodating voters with mobility challenges. In comparison, the New Delhi constituency saw 1,003 elderly voters and 75 PWDs casting their votes from home.

Delhi's seven Lok Sabha seats are set for polling on May 25, with the home voting option available from May 16 to May 24. On a single day, Monday, a total of 4,967 voters across the capital exercised their franchise from home. The distribution of home voters in other constituencies includes 566 in Chandni Chowk, 408 in North East Delhi, 855 in East Delhi, 422 in Northwest Delhi, 1,148 in West Delhi, and 470 in South Delhi.

Approximately 91.88% of eligible voters across all seven constituencies opted for the home voting facility. This method involves a comprehensive setup including polling staff and security personnel ensuring the secrecy and integrity of the voting process. A dedicated team visits the voter's residence to facilitate the voting process, which is also videographed to maintain transparency.

This initiative reflects a significant advancement in making the electoral process more accessible and convenient for those facing difficulties in reaching polling stations. It underscores the commitment of the Election Commission towards fostering an inclusive electoral environment where every vote counts.
