West Bengal: Young woman molested, husband thrashed on New Year’s eve

Kolkata, Jan 2: In a shocking incident, a young woman was molested and her husband was beaten up by drunken goons at New Town area near Kolkata on Wednesday night.

According to a Times of India report, the incident took place at the time when the couple was passing through Chandiberia area of New Town on a bike when six to eight men blocked their way around 12.15am.

The gang molested the women and beat her husband. They also tried to drag the woman away with them but the couple fought them off.

After fighting for their lives, the couple went to nearby police station to file a complaint, but the police refused to lodge saying they won't register the same until the woman got herself medically checked.

Following this, the couple contacted Bidhannagar commissionerate after which their complaint was filed.

"We were returning home when a group of men stopped our bike and threatened my wife to accompany them.When I protested, they grabbed her hand and dragged her off the bike. My wife was traumatized and almost collapsed crying for help but we continued to resist," victim's husband has been quoted in the media report.

He said they also snatched their cellphones, and his wife's gold chain and bracelets before fleeing. "They also tried to take my bike away but failed," he added.

The police are investigating into the matter, but so far no arrest has been made in the case.
