West Bengal police arrest two in connection with the gang rape, murder of a class 8 student

West Bengal police have arrested 2 persons in connection with the rape and murder of a Class 8 student in North Dinajpur. They were produced at a Special POCSO court and remanded to 4 days of police custody.

On November 3, Ritika Tudu a class 8 student was allegedly raped and murdered in Kadirgunj under the Karandighi police station in North Dinajpur district of West Bengal.

Gosai Mandal, 25 years was arrested from Bikor along with Ratan Biswas, 24 years was arrested from Kadirgunj on Monday night in connection with the case.
Raids are on to nab the others who are absconding. The accused were charged under Sections 376 (2)(i), 376D, 302, 201 of the Indian Penal Code read with Sections 4, 6, 8 and 12 of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012.

The duo were produced at the special POCSO Court in Islampur on Tuesday. The police had prayed for 14 days of custody. The Court however remanded the two to 4 days of police custody.

On Friday night the parents of the victim had gone to a nearby village to attend Raas celebrations. The victim who is the eldest of the 4 daughters was sleeping in the veranda.

It is believed that the assailants had stifled her and carried her to the nearby Litchi groves where they gang raped her. Followed this they allegedly strangled her to death and left the dead body on the veranda.

The parents returned late at night. They initially thought that their daughter was in deep sleep. However when she did not respond to their calls, closer inspection revealed the horrific truth.

She had bled from the nose and her body bore marks on injury. There was mud and grass all over her body.
Police state prima facie she was taken to the Litchi groves and gang raped and then strangled to death. The groves showed signs of resistance.
