Governor CV Ananda Bose Steps Up: Donates Salary for West Bengal Flood Relief
Following severe flooding in seven districts of West Bengal, Governor CV Ananda Bose announces his decision to donate a month's salary to the CM's relief fund. The state government has initiated evacuation efforts and is providing aid through relief camps.
As West Bengal grapples with a severe flood situation affecting seven districts, the state's Governor CV Ananda Bose has pledged to donate his one-month salary to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. This announcement was made on Tuesday by an official from Raj Bhavan, marking a significant personal contribution towards relief efforts in the flood-stricken regions.

The floods have already claimed one life due to lightning in Purba Barddhaman District since Monday and prompted large-scale evacuations. The state government has moved 1,259 residents to safer locations while another 970 people were evacuated from Mejia Char area and nearby villages adjacent to the Damodar river under Sonamukhi Block in Bankura district.
Rainfall Across Multiple Districts
The state witnessed rainfall across multiple districts including Kolkata, Coochbehar, Purba Medinipur, Bankura, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Purulia, Paschim Medinipur and South 24 Parganas. According to a statement released by the state government detailing weather conditions and relief measures initiated so far.
Water Logging Issues
There were reports of water logging at Ghatal located within Paschim Medinipur district. In response to these developments, the state administration opened as many as 35 relief camps spread across Bankura and Purulia districts. As part of immediate aid provided for affected citizens; around 14,467 pieces of tarpaulins have been distributed among them till now.
Dams Release Water
In addition to this precarious scenario caused by incessant rains leading up-to flooding situations; approximately 90 thousand cusecs of water had been released from Maithon and Panchet Dams controlled by Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC). The irrigation department is closely monitoring the situation.
The Governor's decision to donate his salary for a month towards flood relief efforts symbolizes a gesture of solidarity and commitment towards the citizens of West Bengal. It sets an example for other officials and individuals who are in positions to contribute financially or otherwise to aid those affected by this natural calamity.
