West Bengal Governor Files Defamation Suit Against CM Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose has initiated a defamation lawsuit against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the Calcutta High Court. This action follows Banerjee's statement that women expressed fear of visiting the Raj Bhavan due to certain activities there, according to a source.

Governor Criticises Remarks

Earlier in the day, Governor Bose criticised Banerjee's comments, stating that public representatives should avoid creating misleading and defamatory impressions. He also filed defamation suits against some TMC leaders for making similar statements, the source added.

During an administrative meeting on Thursday, Banerjee claimed that women had informed her they were scared to visit Raj Bhavan because of recent incidents reported there. This prompted Bose to take legal action against her and her party members.

Allegations and Investigations

On May 2, a contractual female employee at Raj Bhavan accused Bose of molestation. Following this allegation, the Kolkata Police began an investigation into the matter. The situation has escalated tensions between the Governor and the Chief Minister.

When approached for comments, TMC Rajya Sabha MP Dola Sen stated she needed to consult with her party leadership before commenting on the sensitive issue. "I have to talk to my party leadership to find out what actually happened. This is quite a sensitive matter," Sen said.

Political Reactions

Senior BJP leader Rahul Sinha expressed his support for Governor Bose's decision. "I think Governor Bose has taken the right decision. He should have taken this decision long back. I fully support him for this," Sinha remarked.

Veteran CPIM leader Sujan Chakraborty criticised the ongoing conflict between Bose and Banerjee, stating it was detrimental to the state. "It's actually taking us down. They seem to have forgotten their Constitutional responsibilities. Their acts are damaging West Bengal's image at the national level," Chakraborty commented.

The ongoing dispute between Governor Bose and Chief Minister Banerjee continues to draw attention and concern from various political figures in West Bengal.
