West Bengal Government Announces Significant Bureaucratic Reshuffle

The West Bengal government announced a significant bureaucratic reshuffle on Friday night, assigning new roles to three senior IAS officers. This move aims to streamline administrative functions and enhance departmental efficiency.

Major Bureaucratic Changes in WB

Prabhat Kumar Mishra, a 1993 batch IAS officer, has been appointed as the Additional Chief Secretary of the Finance Department. He will also handle the Department of Planning and Statistics. Previously, Mishra was the Additional Chief Secretary of the Irrigation and Waterways Department. He also held additional responsibilities in the Water Resources Investigation and Development Department and served as Project Director at AIDM.

New Roles for Senior IAS Officers

Manoj Pant, a 1991 batch IAS officer, has been named the Additional Chief Secretary of the Irrigation and Waterways Department. Before this, Pant was the Additional Chief Secretary of Finance and managed the Department of Planning and Statistics. He also served as Officer on Special Duty and ex-officio Additional Chief Secretary of the Cabinet Secretariat in New Delhi.

Roshni Sen, another 1993 batch officer, will now serve as the Additional Chief Secretary of the Water Resources Investigation and Development Department. She takes over from Mishra in this role. Sen will continue her duties in Fisheries, Aquaculture, Aquatic Resources, and Fishing Harbour as Additional Chief Secretary. Additionally, she will remain Chairman and Managing Director of the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation.

Streamlining Administrative Functions

These changes are part of an effort to improve administrative efficiency within the state government. The reassignment of these senior officials is expected to bring fresh perspectives to their respective departments.

The reshuffle reflects a strategic move by the West Bengal government to optimise resource management across various sectors. By placing experienced officers in key positions, the administration aims to address ongoing challenges more effectively.

In summary, this bureaucratic reshuffle involves Prabhat Kumar Mishra taking charge of Finance and Planning, Manoj Pant overseeing Irrigation and Waterways, and Roshni Sen managing Water Resources Investigation along with her existing responsibilities. These appointments are intended to enhance departmental performance and ensure better governance in West Bengal.
