West Bengal Electoral Roll Update Extended; Final List Now on February 14, 2026

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the deadline for the final publication of West Bengal's revised electoral rolls, setting the new date as February 14, 2026. The decision follows a Supreme Court notice seeking a response on the safety concerns of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) involved in the intensive revision process.

In its order issued on Wednesday, the ECI confirmed that the timeline for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) has been adjusted in view of the extensive enumeration work and the need for thorough verification and rationalisation of polling stations across West Bengal.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the deadline for the final publication of West Bengal's revised electoral rolls to February 14, 2026, following a Supreme Court notice concerning the safety of Booth Level Officers (BLOs). The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in West Bengal, along with 11 other states and Union Territories, includes house-to-house enumeration, with draft rolls released on December 16, 2025.

As per the updated schedule, house-to-house enumeration by BLOs will finish today, December 11, 2025. The draft electoral rolls will be released on December 16, 2025, after which citizens may submit claims and objections from December 16, 2025, to January 15, 2026.

The poll body has stated that the disposal of claims and objections, along with the special verification drive, will continue until February 7, 2026. Rationalisation of polling stations will also be completed by this date.

The final electoral rolls will then be published on February 14, 2026.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Tuesday issued a notice to the ECI regarding the protection of BLOs who are carrying out enumeration duties during the SIR. The notice seeks the Commission's response to concerns about threats and incidents of violence faced by officers in West Bengal.

A bench comprising CJI Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi observed that BLOs are working under considerable "strain and stress" due to the demanding nature of the SIR operations.

"This is not desk work. They go to each house, verify, submit the enumeration to him (the BLO), and he uploads it. He goes from house to house for the enumeration process, then takes it and uploads it. This is the pressure they are under. Which is strain and stress," the Court remarked.

West Bengal is conducting the Special Intensive Revision along with 11 other States and Union Territories, ahead of the Assembly elections expected to take place in 2026.
