West Bengal BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar had a narrow escape on Sunday when his car met with an accident on NH-34 in Shantipur, Nadia district. The incident occurred when Majumdar's car, attempting to overtake a bus, collided with the trailing pilot car. Three individuals in the pilot car sustained injuries.

Collision Details
Majumdar explained that the accident occurred as his car tried to overtake a bus blocking one side of the highway. In the process, the car collided with a guard rail erected by the police on the same side. Consequently, the trailing pilot car hit his vehicle.
BJP's Allegations
Majumdar, who was returning from a football tournament where he served as the chief guest, raised concerns about a potential conspiracy targeting opposition BJP leaders in the state. He demanded an inquiry to ascertain the truth behind the incident.
Police Response
A police official attributed the accident to congestion caused by ongoing road repair works along the stretch, with the bus partially obstructing one side of the road. However, the BJP's West Bengal unit shared an image of two cars, claiming that Majumdar was the victim of a life-threatening attack as the police pilot car, allegedly biased towards the TMC, collided with his car at high speed. The party asserted that Majumdar's safety was ensured due to the support of the people of Bengal.
West Bengal Police Clarification
In response to the BJP's claims, West Bengal Police provided their account of the incident. According to their statement, Majumdar's escort vehicle belonging to the CISF hit his car near Gobindapur within the Santipur police station area, resulting in slight damage. The police expressed regret over attempts to distort facts with an ulterior motive by claiming that the vehicle involved in the collision belonged to the state police.
Legal Action
West Bengal Police announced that stern legal action would be initiated against those resorting to blatant lies and attempting to incite people. The Ranaghat Police District under West Bengal Police stated that such actions would not be tolerated.
The incident has sparked a political controversy in West Bengal, with both the BJP and the TMC trading accusations and counter-accusations. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter to determine the exact cause of the accident and ascertain if there was any foul play involved.
