West Bengal: 39 dengue deaths since January; 18,238 persons infected
A rise in dengue cases in several districts in West Bengal has increased pressure on the city hospitals. At least two people, suffering from dengue, died on Saturday, while three more deaths due to the vector-borne disease were reported on Friday.

According to government statistics, thirty-nine dengue deaths have been reported so far while 18,238 others have been infected with dengue fever in West Bengal.
Officials said dengue has four varieties - Type 1, 2, 3, 4 and type 2 is fatal. In Kolkata, most of the dengue cases are type 2.
Last year, 21,600 people were suffering from dengue around this time. While this year 39 people have died due to the disease, last year 42 people had lost lives during this period. Director of Health Services B R Satpathi said that the situation is being monitored every minute and it is currently under control and people must not panic.
