Weather update: Rainfall activity likely to decrease across India after 24 hours

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) stated in its report on May 2 that that there would be significant reduction in rainfall activity over northwest India after 24 hours and over south Peninsular India after 48 hours.

The IMD published the All India Weather Summary and Forecast Bulletin on May 2 at 1 pm, stating that "A cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over Southeast Bay of Bengal around 06th May, 2023. Under its influence, a Low Pressure Area is likely to form over the same region during subsequent 48 hours," and "A trough/wind discontinuity runs from southwest Madhya Pradesh to south Tamil Nadu in lower tropospheric levels."

The weather agency also predicted that Hailstorm activity is likely over at isolated places over Uttarakhand between May 2-4th. Thundersquall (wind speed 50-60 kmph) very likely over Uttarakhand on 03rd May.

''Light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall/snowfall with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds (wind speed 30-40 kmph) is likely over Northwest India during next 2 days, significant reduction thereafter for subsequent 02 days and a fresh spell likely to influence the region from 06th May with scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/snowfall over Western Himalayan region and isolated to scattered rainfall over plains of northwest India for subsequent 2-3 days,'' IMD said.

In Central India, Hailstorm very likely at isolated places over East Madhya Pradesh on 02nd & 03rd; over Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh on 02nd May.

In the western part, hailstorm activity very likely at isolated places over Madhya Maharashtra and Marathawada on 02nd & 04th May.

In the southern part, Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala on May 2, heavy rainfall at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh during 02nd-04th. However, heavy rainfall may strike at South Interior Karnataka, Kerala & Tamil Nadu from May 2 to 3 and over Telangana & Rayalaseema on May 2.
