Weather update: IMD predicts rainfall in these states in next 5 days

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday predicted rainfall activity and thunderstorms over the next five days across the country.

The weather-monitoring agency has predicted light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and hailstorm over northwest India till May 2.

Light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorm with lightning, gusty winds and hailstorm over central and east India on April 30 and May 1, it said. On the other hand, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and south interior Karnataka till May 2, a statement from the IMD said.

It further said that an active western disturbance is likely to affect Northwest India from the night of May 1. "Light/moderate scattered/widespread rainfall/snowfall with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds very likely over Western Himalayan Region and scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning/ gusty winds over the plains of Northwest India during next 5 days," the IMD said.

"Hailstorm activity very likely at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh during 30th April-02nd May; Uttarakhand during next 5 days; over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, during 01st-02nd May; over Rajasthan on 30th April and 03rd May. Thundersquall very likely over Uttarakhand on 02nd & 03rd May," the IMD added.

Scattered, fairly widespread rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) is predicted during the next 5 days in central India and South India.

"Very Heavy rainfall at isolated places over Kerala 30th April; over Rayalaseema & Tamil Nadu 01st May. Heavy rainfall likely at isolated places Rayalaseema and North Interior Karnataka on 30th April; over South Interior Karnataka and Coastal Andhra Pradesh during 30th April-2nd May; over Kerala & Tamil Nadu during next 4 days," the statement claimed.

Light, moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds is predicted over east, northeast and west India during the next 5 days.

Maximum temperatures are very likely to be below normal to near normal during the next 5 days, the IMD said.
