Weather Report: IMD Issues Rain Alerts Across India: Detailed Forecast Inside

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast intermittent showers in parts of Delhi until August 5, with a yellow alert for light to moderate rain on August 2. Early Friday morning saw light rainfall in parts of the national capital.

In Kerala, an orange alert has been issued for four districts-Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod-until Saturday (August 3). Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram. Consequently, all educational institutions will remain closed on August 2 in the districts of Wayanad, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasaragod, and Palakkad.

Neetha K Gopal, IMD Kerala director, stated, "We have issued an orange alert in four northern districts of Kerala, including Wayanad. In the south, up to Pathanamthitta, we have also issued a yellow alert. From tomorrow, there will be a considerable reduction in rainfall activity. So, the yellow alerts are being confirmed only for the northern districts of Kerala. From Sunday, there will be a reduction, and we will experience only light to moderate rain for another four days."

Regional Forecast:

West and Central India:

The IMD bulletin predicts widespread light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning in the region for the next five days. Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is likely in Madhya Maharashtra, East Madhya Pradesh on August 2 and 3, and Konkan, Goa, West Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat Region on August 3. Heavy rainfall is expected in Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Gujarat Region from August 2-7; in Madhya Pradesh from August 2-4; in Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh on August 2 and 3; and in Saurashtra and Kutch on August 3.

Northwest India:

Widespread light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning are forecasted over Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, with scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan during the week. Isolated very heavy rainfall is likely in Uttarakhand on August 2 and 3, East Rajasthan during August 2-4, Jammu-Kashmir and Rajasthan during August 2-6, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during August 2-8, and Uttar Pradesh on August 2, 3, and 6-8.

South Peninsular India:

Widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected in Coastal Karnataka, Lakshadweep, Kerala, Mahe, and Karnataka, with isolated to scattered rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana, and Rayalaseema over the next five days.

East and Northeast India:

Widespread light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms and lightning, is anticipated for the next five days. Very heavy rainfall is predicted at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya on August 2 and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on August 5. Isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Jharkhand, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal on August 2, and Bihar, Assam, Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from August 2-8.
