We Are United: DK Shivakumar's First Reaction On Being Declared Dy CM

Hours after Congress announced Siddaramaiah's name as the Chief Minister of Karnataka, the state Congress chief D.K Shivakumar asserted that the party is united in guaranteeing people's welfare.

"Karnataka's secure future and our people's welfare is our top priority, and we are united in guaranteeing that," Shivakumar tweeted, while sharing a picture of himself with Karnataka CM designate Siddaramaiah and the Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi.

"Everything is well and will be well in Karnataka Congress. We had passed a one-line resolution saying whatever decision the high command takes, we will abide by it. Ultimately, Rahul Gandhi called me and convayed that you all have to work together. Later, party president Kharge called us and announced his decision. We all have acceted whatever the formula is being generated," Shivakumar told reporters.

"Our hands will always be united to protect the interests of Kannadigas. The Congress party will work as a family to deliver a pro-people, transparent, corruption-free governance and fulfill all our guarantees,'' Siddaramaiah said, tweeting the same picture.

Ending the deadlock, the Congress on Thursday announced Siddaramaiah as the next Chief Minister of Karnataka and D.K. Shivakumar as his only deputy in the soon-to-formed cabinet.

Hectic parleys were held for four days to break the deadlock in deciding on the Congress's chief ministerial pick in Karnataka, with both the hopefuls Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar presenting their cases before the top brass.

After four days of deliberations, Congress announced Siddaramaiah as the next Karnataka Chief Minister and DK Shivakumar will be Deputy Chief Minister. Both the leaders will now take oath on Saturday. However, there is no clarity on how many ministers will be sworn in.

In the May 10 elections, Congress registered an emphatic victory by bagging 135 seats, while the ruling BJP won 66 seats JDS secured 19 seats.
