Bengaluru, Aug 7: Reiterating that illegal immigrants would be deported from Bengaluru, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara on Tuesday said that Bangladeshis residing in the city have been indetified and would be sent back.

Even last week, Parameshwara had said that strict action would be taken against illegal immigrants in the state. Parameshwara said that they have undertaken a drive to identify such persons and action would follow.

We are sending Bangladeshis back, says Karnataka Deputy CM

"We have identified. There are Bangladeshis in Bangalore and we are sending them back, We have already identified more than 100 African nationals whose visa had expired, we are deporting them too. We will not let anyone stay in Bangalore without valid papers," ANI quoted Parameshwara as saying on Tuesday (August 7).

The entire debate over the illegal immigrants took a political turn after the final draft of the NRC list for Assam was published. Around 40 lakh people failed to make it to the NRC list published.

Back in 2015, H D Kumaraswamy (now CM) had claimed that there are 40,000 illegal immigrants from Bangladesh in Karnataka. In a letter that he wrote in the month of April that year, he had told the then Home Minister, K J George that several illegal Bangladeshi immigrants had taken cup residence in almost all parts of the state.

To a question on what action was being taken against the Bangladeshis, the Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister last week said that the state would surely act against them in case they are found to be living illegally in India.
