'We All Have To Sacrifice At Some Point': Parameshwara On Missing Deputy CM Post

Amid rumours of being upset with the high command over the denial of the Chief Minister or Deputy Chief Minister post, G Parameshwara on Friday said that everybody should "sacrifice" at some time for their party.

"That is okay. We all have to sacrifice at some point in time. It is a good thing happening," ANI quoted former Deputy CM in a tweet after meeting CM-designate Siddaramaiah at his Bengaluru residence.

This statement comes a day after telling the central leadership that there would be an adverse reaction if a Deputy Chief Minister (DCM) post is not given to a Dalit. It was his response to the high command after it announced that Siddaramaiah would be Chief Minister and D K Shivakumar would be his 'only deputy'.

The longest-serving Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Chief had claimed that Dalits have high expectations from the Congress government and the high command should understand it. "Understanding these expectations, our leadership will have to make a decision. If it doesn't happen, naturally there will be reactions for it. There is no need for me to say it. Instead of realising it later, if they rectify it now it will be better. Or else it may cause trouble for the party. I would like to tell them to understand it," Parameshwara said.

The drama around the next CM came to an end on Thursday, days after Congress registered a thumping victory in Karnataka Assembly polls. The grand old party won 135 seats in the 224-member Assembly.

Meanwhile, the swearing-in ceremony of Siddaramaiah and other ministers will be held on Saturday at Kanteerava Stadium on Saturday at 12.30 pm. The leaders from Opposition parties across the country have been invited.

The event is expected to become a stage to display the Opposition Unity ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Congress President Kharge has invited Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, National Conference Chief Farooq Abdullah, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, NCP Chief Sharad Pawar, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
