WB: TMC leader murdered in Birbhum district

Suri (WB), Sep 17: A local Trinamool Congress leader was hacked to death at Sarpalehana in Birbhum district this evening.

Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar said Mahadev Roy [45], Secretary of Sarpalehana local committee of TMC, was stabbed to death by unidentified men.

Roy was on way home when the miscreants intercepted him and stabbed several times.

He was sent to Bolpur Sub-Divisional Hospital and declared dead, the official said adding the motive behind the murder is yet to be known.

Meanwhile, TMC Birbhum district President Anubrata Mondal put the onus on CPI[M]-backed miscreants saying they were scared of Roy's popularity.

Denying the allegation local CPI(M) leader Samir Bhattacharya said the murder was a fallout of TMC factional feud.
