WAVES Summit 2025: PM Modi Flags Off India’s Rise In Global Creative Economy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday, May 1, described the first-ever World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in Mumbai as a "pivotal moment" in building a global ecosystem of creativity, talent, and innovation, according to a Business Standard report. The summit is being held at the Jio World Convention Centre from May 1 to 4.

Addressing the gathering, PM Modi said that India is fast becoming a global centre for film production, digital content, gaming, fashion, music, and live events. He called this the "dawn of the Orange Economy in India", referring to the creative economy that focuses on industries built around culture, arts, and innovation.

"The creative economy can play a big role in increasing India's GDP in the coming years," said PM Modi, encouraging people to "create in India, create for the world."

He also said that the summit's international reach in its first edition shows that the world is ready to recognise and invest in India's creative talent. During the event, postage stamps were released to honour legends of Indian cinema, a move appreciated by the Prime Minister.

Highlighting the spirit of "Sabka Prayas" or collective effort, PM Modi said that collaboration will take India's creative sectors to greater heights. He added that India has a rich collection of stories that are not only ancient and deep, but also have the power to connect with audiences globally.

The Prime Minister also pointed to India's progress in other areas like fintech, mobile manufacturing, and startups. "Our journey of Viksit Bharat has just begun," he said, referring to the vision of a developed India.

The WAVES summit aims to support India's media and entertainment industry through international partnerships, investment opportunities, and joint content creation. According to PM Modi, the event represents a "true wave of culture, creativity, and universal connection".

The summit is expected to help India strengthen its position as a leader in the global creative industry.
