WATCH VIdeo Snowfall In Uttarkashi: Gangotri And Yamunotri Welcome Winter With A White Blanket!
Snowfall gripped the higher reaches of Uttarkashi district on Sunday, marking the first snowfall of the season in the region. Gangotri, Yamunotri Dham, and Harshil Valley were among the areas that witnessed the snowfall, as temperatures plummeted dramatically.
The district headquarters of Uttarkashi, along with other lower regions, experienced light cloud cover, signaling the onset of a cold wave due to the significant temperature drop. After several days of bright sunshine, the temperature dipped sharply on Sunday afternoon, and the clouds settled across the district, indicating the change in weather.

The first snowfall of the season occurred in the high Himalayan areas, including Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham, where temperatures neared freezing, dropping to around zero degrees Celsius. In contrast, the temperature around the district headquarters reached approximately 13 degrees Celsius. This sharp decline in temperatures has ushered in a cold wave across the district.
The regional meteorological center has confirmed that the minimum temperatures during the night and morning hours have significantly dropped in areas that experienced snowfall. This sudden drop in temperature has forced locals to don sweaters and jackets to stay warm.
Weather experts predict that this early snowfall could signal a promising winter with more snow to come. The Meteorological Department has forecasted light rain across certain parts of Uttarakhand and additional snowfall in the higher altitudes of the hill districts on Monday and Tuesday, triggered by the activation of a western disturbance. These predictions have proven accurate, with the district experiencing its first heavy snowfall of the season.
With the cold wave now in effect, residents and visitors are bracing for a chillier winter season ahead.
