During the onslaught of rain and storm in the area, a portion of the roof in the forecourt area of the airport was blown away. Chief Airport Officer (CAO) Utpal Baruah noted that the roof, being very old, could not withstand the impact. "As a result, the ceiling broke open, and water started flowing inside. However, there were no injuries, and the situation is now under control," Baruah stated.

The storm uprooted a large tree at the Oil India complex outside the airport, blocking a road. Baruah promptly dispatched personnel to clear the road, ensuring smooth fuel supply to the terminal.
Baruah affirmed his personal oversight of the situation to minimize passenger inconvenience. Due to the storm and heavy rainfall, visibility significantly decreased, prompting the diversion of six flights, including those operated by IndiGo, Air India, and Air India Express to Agartala and Kolkata.
"Visibility has since improved, and normal operations have resumed with flights now landing in Guwahati," Baruah added.
