WATCH | SpiceJet Passengers Sitting Inside Flight Sans AC Amid Sweltering Heat

As the country sizzles under inhospitable heatwave, a video from Darbhanga-bound SpiceJet flight has surfaced online highlighting the severe impact of the ongoing weather conditions in India on air travel.

Passengers on a SpiceJet flight (SG 476) from Delhi to Darbhanga were subjected to an hour-long wait inside the aircraft without air conditioning, intensifying the already unbearable heat conditions.

The passengers, seen in a video using brochures, magazines, and handkerchiefs to fan themselves and wipe sweat off their foreheads, endured immense discomfort. Several passengers reportedly fell ill due to the prolonged exposure to heat.

Rohan Kumar, a passenger on the flight, mentioned that the air conditioning was only turned on after the flight took off.

"At the Delhi airport after the check-in, they did not switch on the air-conditioning for an hour. The temperature inside the flight was at least 40 degrees. The passengers were suffering. The AC was switched on when the flight took off," he said.

This incident follows another heat-related delay experienced by an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Bagdogra, which was delayed by three hours due to a technical snag caused by high ground temperatures.

The heatwave in Delhi has resulted in increased vulnerability to heat strokes, with several fatalities being reported. At least five people have died in the last two days, and 12 others are on life support at Delhi's Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital due to heatstroke.
