A landslide occurred on the Shree Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra route near southern Deori in Jammu, temporarily disrupting the pilgrimage to the revered shrine. The incident, which happened amid heavy rainfall in the region, did not result in any injuries.

The Yatra has since resumed through an alternate route, with Shrine Board officials closely monitoring the situation at the landslide site to ensure the safety of pilgrims, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Weather Conditions and Impact

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that Jammu and Kashmir have experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas over the past 24 hours. Katra, located at the base of Trikuta Hill where the Vaishno Devi shrine is situated, recorded 13 cm of rainfall. The IMD has forecasted more rainfall across the Jammu division until August 16.

In addition to the landslide, a cloudburst in the Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir earlier today triggered a flash flood, submerging several areas. Fortunately, there were no reports of casualties from this incident, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Weather Update For Vaishno Devi

The Srinagar Meteorological Centre has issued an advisory predicting light to moderate rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir on August 15, with similar conditions expected to continue into the early morning of August 16-20. The IMD anticipates fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, as well as scattered to fairly widespread rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan over the next four to five days, as per media reports.

Isolated heavy rainfall is also forecasted for Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, and East Rajasthan on August 14 and 15. Jammu division is expected to experience similar weather from August 14 to 16. Himachal Pradesh is predicted to see heavy rainfall from August 14 to 18, while Uttarakhand could experience intermittent showers from August 14 to 20. Additionally, isolated very heavy rainfall is expected over East Rajasthan on August 14.

As the Shree Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra continues despite the disruption, pilgrims are advised to stay informed about weather conditions and travel updates. The authorities are working diligently to manage the situation and ensure the safety of all those travelling to the shrine.
