Watch: How A Lone Buffalo Survives An Attack From Lion Pride

A video of a buffalo surviving an attack from a lion pride has caught the attention of the netizens.

The incident was captured by Antoni Britz, who is the manager at Elephant Walk Retreat, at Kruger National Park, South Africa. "The Vurhami Pride paid us a visit at Ellie Walk yesterday, they were attempting to hunt this lone buffalo... giving our guests and our staff quite a show," Elephant Walk Retreat captioned the clip.

In the viral footage, the lions try to attack the lone buffalo, but it outsmarts and escapes from the crocodile-infested river.

"On this particular day one of our staff members, Sipho, who was working in unit 8, spotted lions from the deck and came to call me," Latest Sightings quoted Antoni Britz as saying.

He said that it was the lone buffalo that had come to drink water at the river. Luckily, it saw lions stalking him and charged. "It was the Vurhami Pride, and they have quite a few sub-adults in the pride, who are quite inexperienced, they seemed nervous of the buffalo and didn't want to take him on properly. They kept their distance, but didn't give up," he added.

The buffalo realised that it will not survive if it does not cross the river and crossed over to the other side.

According to him, by observing and imitating seasoned hunters in the pride, young lions develop their confidence in hunting. "The lions accepted their defeat and began to drink water. You could almost see the relief on the old buffaloes' face as the lions left the riverbed one by one. Perhaps they too didn't feel brave enough to cross crocodile-infested water just to get some food."
