Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chandrababu Naidu shared a special moment today after the Telugu leader was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for the fourth time.

Following his oath of office, Naidu approached PM Modi, and the two leaders shared a heartfelt hug, symbolizing the formation of a Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-BJP coalition government in the southern state.

The swearing-in ceremony was not only graced by PM Modi but also attended by several of his prominent cabinet colleagues, including Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, and JP Nadda. This gathering of high-profile leaders underscored the significance of the event and the coalition's importance in the broader political landscape.

The BJP contested the elections in alliance with the TDP, led by Naidu, and Telugu star Pawan Kalyan's Jana Sena Party. Kalyan, who has a substantial following in Andhra Pradesh, was also sworn in as a minister during the ceremony. This alliance proved to be a formidable force in the elections.

The alliance achieved a sweeping victory in both the Andhra Pradesh state elections and the simultaneous Lok Sabha polls. They secured a remarkable 164 out of the total 175 seats in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. Within this coalition, the TDP won 135 seats, Jana Sena secured 21 seats, and the BJP obtained eight seats, showcasing a dominant political presence in the state.

In the national elections, the alliance won 21 of Andhra Pradesh's 25 Lok Sabha seats, effectively dismantling the stronghold of the incumbent YSR Congress Party. This significant victory not only shifted the political landscape in Andhra Pradesh but also bolstered the BJP's standing at the national level.

The TDP emerged as a crucial ally for the BJP, playing a pivotal role in forming a coalition government at the centre. The BJP, having fallen short of the 272-majority mark required to form a government independently, relied on the support of the TDP to establish a stable government. In recognition of the TDP's critical support, the Modi 3.0 cabinet allocated a significant cabinet berth and a Minister of State position to the party.

The alliance between the BJP and the TDP was forged shortly before the elections, marking Naidu's return to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) after a hiatus of six years. The TDP had been a vital component of the NDA until 2018 when Naidu, who was serving as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh at the time, decided to withdraw from the alliance.

His departure was driven by concerns regarding the financial support being provided to the state, a contentious issue that had strained the relationship between the TDP and the central government. This recent political development marks a significant chapter in the political dynamics of Andhra Pradesh and the broader Indian political landscape, highlighting the importance of strategic alliances and the evolving nature of political partnerships in India.
