Air India's 'Safety Mudra'

Air India issued a statement highlighting the careful development of their new inflight safety video, 'Safety Mudra', intended to captivate passengers while celebrating the rich tapestry of Indian culture. The video seamlessly blends safety instructions with mudras, or symbolic hand gestures, drawn from eight distinct dance forms across India: Bharatnatyam, Bihu, Kathak, Kathakali, Mohiniyattam, Odissi, Ghoomar, and Giddha.

Each dance form featured in the video imparts specific safety instructions, ensuring passengers receive vital information in an engaging and culturally immersive manner. The collaboration behind 'Safety Mudras' involved prominent figures in the Indian creative scene, including Prasoon Joshi of McCann Worldgroup, musician Shankar Mahadevan, and filmmaker Bharatbala.

Campbell Wilson, Air India's CEO & MD, expressed pride in presenting this artistic endeavour, underscoring the airline's commitment to showcasing India's cultural diversity. He emphasized that the video not only serves as a practical safety measure but also extends a warm welcome to passengers, inviting them to experience the essence of India from the moment they step onboard.

Initially, the safety video will debut on Air India's A350 aircraft, equipped with cutting-edge inflight entertainment systems. Over time, the airline plans to roll out the video across its entire fleet, ensuring passengers on all flights can enjoy this immersive cultural experience while receiving essential safety guidance.
