Was Jaish-e-Mohammad setting up a home grown module in Delhi?

New Delhi, May 4: The Delhi police conducted raids in several places in an around the national capital in a bid to bust a module connected to the Jaish-e-Mohammad.

The raids were conducted following the arrest of 12 persons from Delhi and UP suspected to be operatives of the Jaish-e-Mohammad.

The police have learnt that there could be more persons associated with this alleged module. It was when the first arrest was made in Inderpuri in New Delhi that the police realised that these youth were in touch with an operative of the Jaish-e-Mohammad.

The Delhi police say that they suspect that this module was being nurtured by the Jaish-e-Mohammad as a local unit. The module may have come into existence to strike in the capital and other places in North India.

A local module of the JeM?

The police suspect that the JeM which has been relatively restricted following the Pathankot attack was attempting to set up a home grown outfit in India. This outfit may have been set up with an intention of carrying out attacks in India. The youth of Indian origin were roped in allegedly by a Jaish-e-Mohammad handler Yusuf, the police say.

We are still probing the case and currently our team is carrying out raids in several other places as we suspect more members of this module may be present.

All of them were of Indian origin and they told us during the interrogation that they were reporting to a Jaish-e-Mohammad handler. The intention was to strike first at the National Capital, investigations have also learnt.
