Sukhbir Singh Badal Demands Immediate Loan Waiver for Farmers Affected by Punjab Floods

Sukhbir Singh Badal has called on the government to waive loans for farmers in flood-affected areas of Punjab and provide immediate compensation for crop losses and property damage. He visited impacted regions and assured support for recovery efforts.

Sukhbir Singh Badal, the president of Shiromani Akali Dal, has urged for the cancellation of loans for farmers and farm labourers in Punjab's flood-hit regions. He emphasised the need for immediate compensation for those who have suffered crop losses and damage to their homes, shops, and other properties.

During his visit to the flood-affected Kathlour and nearby areas in the Bhoa constituency along River Ravi, Badal interacted with local farmers. He assured them of assistance in reinforcing bunds and removing sand from their fields once the floodwaters subside. The widespread flooding has affected lakhs of acres of land, leading to significant crop destruction.

Compensation for Damaged Properties

Badal expressed concern over the Aam Aadmi Party government's delay in providing interim compensation for crop damage. He stressed that individuals whose homes, sheds, shops, and other establishments have been damaged should receive immediate financial aid. His visit included a site where 100-150 shops were swept away by the floods.

Members of the Majha Kisan Sangharsh Samiti informed Badal that over 500 acres of paddy crops have been destroyed by floodwaters. Additionally, they highlighted that 20-25 villages are at risk due to the flooding. In response, Badal promised both manpower and resources to assist them.

Support for Farmers and Labourers

The SAD president insisted that waiving off all bank and cooperative society loans for affected farmers and khet mazdoor is necessary. He believes this measure is crucial given the extensive damage caused by the floods. Badal also pledged that SAD workers would engage in sewa, or voluntary service, to help clear sand from fields once conditions improve.

Badal's call for action underscores the urgent need for government intervention in addressing the plight of those affected by the floods. His commitment to supporting farmers and labourers highlights the importance of community solidarity during such challenging times.
