Phase 6 of Lok Sabha Elections Witnesses Lowest Turnout at 61.20%
The latest phase of the Lok Sabha elections, which took place on Saturday, witnessed a voter turnout of 61.20 per cent, marking it as the phase with the lowest participation rate thus far, according to preliminary data available until 11.45 pm. This turnout is slightly lower than the 62.20 per cent recorded in the previous phase. The Election Commission has noted that these figures are provisional and subject to updates.

During this sixth phase, voters from 58 constituencies across eight states and Union Territories cast their ballots. This compares to the 2019 general elections where, during the corresponding phase, 59 seats across seven states saw a higher turnout of 64.4 per cent. The Election Commission also revisited the turnout for the fifth phase held on May 20, confirming it stood at 62.2 per cent.
Comparatively, the fourth phase of the current elections saw a significantly higher turnout of 69.16 per cent, which is 3.65 percentage points above its 2019 counterpart. The third phase's turnout was recorded at 65.68 per cent, slightly lower than the 68.4 per cent in the same phase of the previous elections. The second phase of the 2024 elections had a turnout of 66.71 per cent, a decrease from the 69.64 per cent in 2019's second phase. Meanwhile, the first phase of the ongoing elections reported a turnout of 66.14 per cent, below the 69.43 per cent seen in the first phase of the 2019 polls.
The Election Commission has indicated that the final voter turnout for this phase will only be confirmed after all results have been tallied, including postal ballots which will be added to the total voting percentage. This meticulous process ensures that every vote is accounted for in determining the official participation rate.
This detailed compilation of voter turnouts not only reflects varying levels of electoral engagement across different phases but also highlights how participation rates can fluctuate from one election cycle to another. As these provisional figures suggest a slight decline in voter engagement compared to previous years, they underscore the dynamic nature of electoral participation and its susceptibility to change over time.
