Viral Video Shows Mahindra Thar SUV Forcing Its Way Through River To Escape Traffic Jam In Himachal

The Himachal Pradesh Police took action against an SUV owner for purportedly driving across the Chandra River in Lahaul and Spiti district. A video circulating on social media showcased the SUV maneuvering through the river, presumably attempting to evade significant traffic congestion.

With tourists flooding the hill station for Christmas and New Year celebrations, the state witnessed a substantial influx, leading to chaotic traffic conditions. In a bid to escape the snarls, the owner of a Mahindra Thar ingeniously navigated the SUV across the river.

The Chandra River's shallow water level facilitated the SUV's passage without substantial difficulty. However, the locals expressed discontent after the video gained traction online.

Responding to the viral video, the police issued a challan to the driver. Mayank Chaudhry, the superintendent of police, emphasized, "The vehicle crossing the river Chandra in District Lahaul Spiti has been penalized under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Additionally, the district police have stationed personnel in the area to prevent such offenses in the future."

Amidst the influx of tourists, numerous roads linking popular destinations in Himachal Pradesh grappled with intense traffic congestion. To monitor the situation, authorities in Lahaul and Spiti district conducted drone surveillance. Video footage revealed roads clogged with vehicles, exacerbating the scarcity of parking spaces.

Amidst the chaotic traffic, some individuals engaged in risky car stunts, causing disturbances. A viral video showcased a man driving a car with its doors wide open, hanging precariously from one of them. Kullu's police took action against this behavior, imposing a fine of Rs 3,500.
