Viral Video: Lions-Dogs Face Off At Gujarat Cowshed, Captured On CCTV

A video capturing an fierce clash between two lions and two dogs at a cowshed in Savarkundla in Gujarat has gone viral on social media. The incident occurred on Sunday night, about 70 kilometers from the famous Gir National Park.

Footage from a CCTV camera installed at the cowshed's gates shows the lions approaching the area when they suddenly come face-to-face with two dogs on the other side of the gate. The four animals then engaged in a standoff, slamming against the iron gate that separated them. Fortunately, the gate prevented any harm as the lions and dogs struggled to get at each other.

Shortly after the encounter, the lions fled into nearby bushes, just moments before a man emerged from the cowshed, seemingly trying to figure out the commotion. He inspected the area with a torch, peered into the bushes, and eventually returned to lock the gate.

The lions are believed to have strayed from a nearby reserve forest area. No official statement has been issued regarding the incident.

This dramatic encounter comes just a day after Gujarat celebrated World Lion Day with a series of programs aimed at raising awareness about the conservation of big cats. The state's forest department marked the occasion by sending SMSes and emails to citizens and organizing rallies, drawing competitions, and other events in schools across 11 districts that are home to lions.

According to the 2020 census, Gujarat is home to 674 Asiatic lions, most of which reside in and around the Gir National Park.
