Viral Video: CRPF Jawan Attacked by Kanwariyas Over Train Dispute at Mirzapur Station
Tensions flared at the Mirzapur railway station on Saturday when a CRPF jawan was allegedly assaulted by three kanwariyas following a dispute over train tickets. The incident took place as the jawan was preparing to board the Brahmaputra Express, while the kanwariyas were also vying for seats to Baidyanath Dham in Jharkhand - a key pilgrimage destination during the ongoing Kanwar Yatra.
Inspector Raghavendra of the Government Railway Police (GRP) confirmed that officers at the scene intervened swiftly to prevent the situation from escalating. Additional reinforcements were dispatched from the local station to control the crowd and safely extract the injured jawan from the altercation.

Legal Action and Bail
The three accused kanwariyas were arrested and booked under sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant provisions of the Railway Act. They were later released on bail, GRP officials said.
Broader Context
The incident casts a spotlight on the recurring challenges of crowd control and public safety during major religious pilgrimages. The Kanwar Yatra - a mass annual event in which devotees of Lord Shiva travel by foot or rail to sacred sites - often tests the limits of public infrastructure and law enforcement, particularly at transport hubs.
