Viral Video: Blinkit Rider Stopped, Grilled In Ghaziabad For Delivering Non-Veg In Sawan

A video from Ghaziabad's Vijay Nagar area has triggered public debate over food choices and religious policing. In the widely circulated clip, two members of the Bajrang Dal are seen stopping a Blinkit delivery rider and questioning him about his name and the contents of his delivery during the ongoing Shravan month, a period considered sacred by many Hindus.

Upon learning that the rider was delivering non-vegetarian food, the men expressed disapproval, citing religious sensitivities. They insisted the rider call the customer and urged the buyer not to consume non-veg items during this period. The situation only calmed down after the customer clarified they were Christian, after which the delivery was allowed to proceed.

Ghaziabad food policing

This is not an isolated case. A similar incident recently occurred at a KFC outlet in Vasundhara, where members of the Hindu Raksha Dal protested against the sale of non-vegetarian food during Shravan, raising concerns about rising instances of moral and cultural policing.

Business and Public Reactions

These incidents have raised concerns among local businesses, especially restaurants and food delivery platforms. Some vendors report a dip in sales, while others worry about safety and operational freedom. Public opinion remains divided. While some support such actions in the name of preserving religious values, others view them as intrusive and unconstitutional.

Subhash, a Bajrang Dal member, confirmed the group's involvement and stated that they have requested local food outlets and shops to suspend non-vegetarian sales until Shivratri. According to him, many locals have welcomed the move.

Police and Legal Standpoint

Ritesh Tripathi, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Kotwali), confirmed that a team has been assigned to investigate the Vijay Nagar incident. However, no formal complaint has been registered so far.

Senior police officials have clarified that there is no legal restriction on the sale or delivery of non-vegetarian food during Shravan. Authorities have assured food businesses of their protection and the right to operate without harassment.

Meanwhile, the issue of food regulation along religious pilgrimage routes has reached the Supreme Court. The Court, while refusing to stay a state government order requiring eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to display QR codes with owner details, directed compliance with existing norms, including visible licensing and registration.
