Vijayadashami 2023: When is Dussehra (Dasara)? Here's The Date

Vijayadashami is observed to commemorate the victory of Lord Rama over the demon Ravana and the conquest of Goddess Durga over the buffalo demon Mahishasura. This festival is also recognized as Dussehra or Dasara. In Nepal, Dasara is celebrated as Dashain.

Dussehra (Dasara) is celebrated on the Shukla Paksha Dashmi during the Ashwin month of the Hindu lunar calendar. It is celebrated on the day following Maha Navami or marks the conclusion of Shardiya Navratri.

While it occurs on the tenth day of Sharada Navratri, the customs and cultural traditions associated with Dussehra can vary across the diverse regions of India. Also due to two auspicious yogs, Dussehra has led to confusion over the date among the Hindus. While a few believe that the festival is today (October 23), some are celebrating the festival tomorrow (October 24).

As per Drikpanchang, this year's Dussehra or Vijayadashami festival is slated to be observed on Tuesday, October 24, 2023. The Vijay Muhurat is set to occur from 01:58 pm to 02:43 pm, while the Aparahna puja time is scheduled from 01:13 pm to 03:28 pm.
